Obituary for Elva J. Oakes

Elva Jean Jacobson was born in a one room farm house in Maxbass, ND on December 29, 1925 to Jacob & Elfreida Jacobson and passed peacefully with family by her side May 22, 2018. Elva graduated from Westhope High School at age 16. There was a shortage of farmhands due to the war so she worked on the family farm and at the local gas station. In 1946 she arrived by train in Auburn, WA to work for PNBW. She continued to work in the banking industry until she retired as a VP at BofA. Elva & DuWayne Oakes married November 6, 1948. They spent their lives together raising their family in Parkland then Lakewood for 54 years where they were active members of Christ Lutheran Church. They resided at the Tacoma Lutheran Home from 2014 - present. Elva was preceded in death by her parents and their son Gerald. She is survived by her husband of almost 70 years DuWayne, sisters Evelyn Turner & June Stratton, children Jon, Robert (Charlene), Kathleen (Landon), Mary Mitts (Marty), 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
