Obituary for Mildred "Millie" Jones

Mildred "Millie" Jones Died July 13, 2018, in Tigard, OR, while surrounded by the love of her family. She was 97. Born March 8, 1921 to Alfred and Goldie (Shafer) Foreman, Millie was raised in Kapowsin, WA. Her love for God and family meant the world to her. She was kind and adventurous, hardworking, and fiercely independent. Millie married her high school sweetheart, Dennis "Denny" Butler, on Dec. 26, 1941. They raised their three children, Donna, Doug, and Warren, and managed the Butler Grocery Store in the heart of Kapowsin. They had been married for nearly 30 years when he passed away. Millie felt extremely blessed to find love again. She and her husband Don Jones were married nearly 25 years before he died of cancer. Millie had to leave school early to help with family support. She went back something she had always wanted to do and completed her high school degree at age 50. She worked at a match factory and was a cook for a logging camp, and managed the Standard Oil Distributorship in Fort Yukon, AK. Millie enjoyed camping and fishing, quilting, and community service. She volunteered with Loaves and Fishes in Portland for many years. Millie had a quick wit, and kept you on your toes in cribbage and nearly any card or board game. Millie also enjoyed watching sports and walking. Her most recent church family was at Mountain Highway Baptist Church, where her son Warren served as pastor for several years. Millie was preceded in death by both of her husbands, as well as son Warren and grandsons Tyson and Casey Butler. She is survived by children Donna and Ken Bergmann, Doug and Janie Butler, and Chris Butler; stepchildren Naomi, Donnie, and Cheryl Ann Jones; and grandchildren Brian and Torie Bergmann, Deana Bowser; Dennis, Todd, Jason and Kellee Butler, and Kyle, Jessica, and Danielle Jones, as well as many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 11 at Mountain Highway Baptist Church, 24621 36th Ave. Ct. E, Spanaway.
