Obituary for Elke Peterson

Elke (Schaefer) Peterson passed away in her home in Graham, Washington on Saturday, February 2, 2019 with her husband of 52 years at her side. She was 72 years old.

Elke was born on September 2, 1946 in Staden, Germany to Karl & Wilhelmina (Baum) Schaefer and was the third of 6 siblings. She came to America at the age of 18. She lived in California where she met and married Louis B. Peterson on April 8, 1967. They raised 2 children, Julie and Thomas. She was successful in business. The family later relocated to Washington State.

Elke was an avid scenic photographer and traveler. She established a photography business with her husband in the Pacific Northwest, allowing them to pursue their joint passion together for over 25 years. She ran a daycare in her home, where she helped raise and care for a group of children to whom she became emotionally attached.

Elke was a long-time survivor of three organ transplants. She never let her challenges prevent her from traveling, photographing, and enjoying life.

Elke is survived by her beloved husband, Louis Peterson, her daughter Julie (Peterson) Cooke [Erik], her son Thomas, and 3 teenage grandsons, Joshua, Noah, and Elijah.

She leaves behind a sister in Germany, Annemarie Sich, and many nieces and nephews.
