Obituary for Fredrick A. Huggler

Fred was born July 1, 1926 in Tacoma, WA to Ulrich and Minnie Huggler and passed away January 13, 2018. He attended Collins Elementary and graduated in 1946 from Roy High School where he varsity lettered in basketball, baseball and football. He was a gifted singer and guitar player and sang for weddings and school events. Fred served with the National Guard 1946-1950 before marrying Carmela Joanne Miller on June 3, 1950. He was member of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Posse and earned honors in 1961 as Man of the Year and 1965 as Posse Captain. The Posse was a big part of their life during the early years; he and Carmela would pack up the family every summer and travel to Posse meets. The kids loved going along to watch their dad practice drills. Fred was a well-known successful and ethical businessman throughout the community, working in sales for 27 years with Selden’s Floor Covering, then real estate sales, and eventually owner of Huggler’s Floor Covering for an additional 26 years. Fred retired at 84 years old from Crescent Realty. He is survived by his wife Carmela of 67 years; sons: Fred (Teri), Rick (Cheryl), Brad (Mary), Doug (Lori) and daughter Heidi (Dan); nine grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. Fred thought the best of everyone and will be known for his kind and friendly nature. He often said, “You can catch more with honey than with vinegar.”
