Obituary for Donna J. Wood

Donna Jeanne Wood (Leer) Our wonderful mother passed away on July 11, 2018 at the age of 82 in Puyallup, WA. Donna was a devoted and loving wife, who adored her husband and family. Dick and Donna were married in 1959. It brings us peace and joy knowing she joined him in eternity on what would have been their 59th wedding anniversary. Donna was born in Elgin, North Dakota on April 15, 1936 to Willis and Ethel Leer. She was raised in Tacoma, was a proud 1954 graduate of Stadium High School, attended Central Washington University, and enjoyed her work at Puget Sound National Bank in downtown Tacoma until the birth of her twin daughters. Donna thoroughly loved being a mom, raising her girls, and being involved in their lives. She returned to the banking world and retired after 20 years at Community Credit Union. Donna was an avid reader, enjoyed knitting, and loved all things family. She was thrilled to have married into a large family, and delighted in bringing family and friends together for many celebrations. Backyard pool parties and family reunions at the river were favorites. Her granddaughters were the apple of her eye, and she would have been overjoyed to have known her great-grandchildren. Donna is survived by her twin daughters and their husbands, Beth and Bob Ladner and Carol and Tim Hop, both of Puyallup; granddaughters Brianna Gilstrap (Chad), Jessica Miller (Nick), Kristie Michel (Andy), Molly Owens (Matt), and Rebecca Hop; and great-grandchildren Madi Gilstrap and Dak Miller. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard Wood; her beloved mother and stepfather, Ethel and Glen Bielenberg; brother Ronald Leer; and father Willis Leer. Services will be held on Saturday, August 4th, at Fir Lane Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 924 East 176th St., Spanaway, WA. All are welcome to attend the graveside service at 10:00 and Celebration of Life at 11:00. Many heartfelt thanks to the wonderful caregivers at her adult family home for the care they provided our mom during her last years, and to Franciscan Hospice and volunteers for their guidance and service. If desired, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in her honor.
