Obituary for Theodore Tel

Theodore "Ted" Tel Passed away peacefully at his home on January 2, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was 85 years old. Ted was a longtime resident of Graham, Washington, where he was a dairy farmer. Ted was born on April 1, 1932 in Terwispel, Friesland, the Netherlands to Sjoerd Tel and Renske Wiegersma. He was the eldest of twelve children. He immigrated to California in 1956, where he met his wife, Tena Kaastra. They were married on April 19, 1961. In 1965 they moved to Washington, first to Auburn, and then settling on their farm in Graham in 1970, where he resided until his passing. He was a dedicated member and leader in his church. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Tena, and his children George, Peter (Katrina Horstman), Linda (Robert Buck), Martin (Sharilyn Veenstra), and Arthur (Leslie Hellinga), as well as 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Ted was a loving and faithful husband and father. He joyed in his vocation of farming and his avocation of gardening. First and foremost, he would wish to be known as a committed follower of Jesus. Ted's greatest desire was to see his children and their children grow in grace and in the knowledge of their Lord and Savior. We will miss him dearly, and we give thanks to God for the long and abundant life that he shared with us. A service of gratitude for Ted's life will take place at the Tacoma Christian Reformed Community Church, 2419 E. 72nd Street, on Monday, January 8, at 1 p.m., followed by a reception. In lieu of gifts and flowers, donations may be made to Bethany Christian Services in memory of Theodore Tel at www.bethany.org/support-bethany/give.
