Obituary for Cody A. Miller

Cody Miller Cody was the greatest at telling stories. He once told me to not spoil a good story by telling the truth. His stories were often loosely grounded in reality, but guaranteed entertaining. I'll focus on the truth for now This one begins in Graham, Washington with Cody Jr., the eldest son of Cody and Grace Miller, born in 1947. He grew up locally and graduated from Bethel High School. Shortly thereafter the Vietnam war commenced, and Cody answered the call of his country. He joined the Army and later entered OCS. Upon his graduation as a first lieutenant he was dispatched to Vietnam, where he honorably led his unit. During his tour he was injured in a hospital attack, nearly losing his life just trying to save others. Our hero. Upon returning home he met the love of his life and eventually graduated from Western Washington University. Cody and Cynthia decided to start their family and had three amazing boys, all of whom have grown to men sharing the qualities of their father. They too have now started families of their own, continuing the novel for another generation, chapter by chapter. Cody wrote the book on adventures. Stories of love, laughter, lessons, and loss. His life is filled with such exploits we can only begin to share. A decorated war hero with a purple heart, a Boone and Crockett Dall Sheep record holder (just ask to see the book), an amazing individual, skilled businessman, real estate mentor, confidant, sportsman, veterans' advocate, and our own personal legend. These were all amazing chapters, but even that wasn't what he was most proud of. What really mattered were family and the holidays, birthdays, vacations, and precious time spend writing these stories. Last week we didn't lose just a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. We lost something much more than that. We lost our rock. Cody was preceded in death by his parents and his sister. He is survived by his wife Cynthia, brothers Jody (Susan) and Rory, and children Cody (Aubrey), Casey (Stephanie), and Colby (Elle), including many grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and special friends. Please join us in sharing his story Saturday, September 22nd, 2018, at 1:00 at Fir Lane Funeral Home, 924 East 176th ST. Spanaway, WA. A reception will follow at the Lemay Marymount Facility, 325 152nd ST E Tacoma WA 98445.
